The Daily Psych was created to provide shareable resources and practical advice for those navigating the application and admissions process in pursuit of a doctoral level degree in clinical psychology.
The admissions process for clinical psychology PhD programs is statistically one of the most difficult – most programs have a less than 5% admittance rate, depending on program size and funding. Those of us who are courageous enough to start the arduous application process could benefit from peer-to-peer support, practical information, and encouragement to stay the course.
Without a strong mentor or the ability to network and make new connections with faculty, the graduate admissions process can remain shrouded in mystery; it can feel like other applicants are playing with a full deck, while you were only given a few select cards. There are many ways in which graduate admissions are unfairly skewed - the GRE, overall GPA, access to research and clinical opportunities, and guidance on how to write effective statements to name a few. Being offered a spot in a program is often a struggle, regardless of capability, passion, or readiness.
My goal in creating The Daily Psych is to close the opportunity gap between applicants with excess resources and those without. I want to create a community of like-minded scientists who believe in equity for all in graduate admissions and beyond.
